Welcome your Kaga guests into your home and treat them as a temporary family member. We're looking for host families who can provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive home environment that is also clean, orderly, and has adequate space for guests. Your home must be free of substance abuse, physical abuse, or any other form of abuse. A host family should be warm, caring, and open, providing a supervised, safe, and comfortable atmosphere. You'll be expected to provide all meals and cover the cost of any family activities the student(s) participates in during their stay. As part of the accommodation, you should provide a suitable place for your guest to sleep, which generally means their own bed, and preferably their own room or a shared room with a same-gender host sibling.
F.A.Q. "Can I just send my teen on the Japan trip and skip hosting altogether?"
No, participation in the Japan trip is directly tied to a commitment to host one or two Kaga students or chaperones.
The Kids for Kaga program is a true reciprocal exchange, not a traditional travel tour. It operates on the "pay it forward" concept, where your family's generosity in hosting a Japanese student directly enables Canadian teens to have the same authentic cultural immersion in Japan. When you open your home, you're not just providing a place to stay—you're contributing to a direct cycle of giving and receiving. This unique model ensures the program remains affordable and deeply meaningful, as the Japanese families who host students here will be the same ones extending their hospitality to our group in Kaga. This opportunity is only possible because both communities value hosting as much as traveling.
